If you’ve read our previous blog posts – which I’ve sadly neglected for a while – you saw a post last year around this time about how one of our designers hates needles. It briefly described his fight with cancer – nasopharyngeal carcinoma to be exact. Henry went through months of chemotherapy and radiation treatments running from July 2014 through January of 2015. He kept working with BLM as best he could during that time, but as many cancer patients can attest, the treatments took a heavy physical toll and eventually he had to stop working.
In January 2015, some time after his radiation treatments had completed, he was starting to feel better and was ready to come back to BLM. Of course, we welcomed him back with open arms, very happy to hear he was feeling better. He was slowly able to add more work to his schedule, and after his last chemo treatment he really started to rebound physically. It’s taken him a long time, but he’s doing much better now and feeling great.
The latest: Henry’s had another check-up in June and received a great prognosis – he’s CANCER FREE! He spent some time out celebrating with his family and friends – well deserved time off, if you ask me – but is as dedicated as ever to working with BLM.
By mere coincidence, during Henry’s treatment I also had a brush with cancer. I was diagnosed with a Melanoma on my shoulder in Dec 2014 and underwent surgery to have it removed in January 2015. I’ve got a wicked scar right through my tattoo to show for it, but thankfully I have also been diagnosed cancer free. Henry was a good friend and great support for me as I went through my surgery, and I thank him for that.
It’s been a crazy year at BLM for both the company and the people in it. But, through all the challenges I feel like we’ve all come back stronger and more focused. Our goal is as it’s always been – create kick-ass band logos for our customers. And at the same time, Henry and I will keep kicking ass, too!
